Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the World rising in breathtaking isolation from the surrounding savannah elevation around 900 meters to an imperious 5,895 meters MASL (19,336 feet) in Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) Tanzania.
Mt Kilimanjaro is one of the World’s most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the global. Climbing Kilimanjaro doesn’t require any special technical skills rather than proper health and determination.
There is so much more than just summit to Uhuru peak. The ascent of the slopes is a virtual climatic earth tour from tropical to arctic. Before crossing the Kilimanjaro Mountain National Park boundaries in the lower slopes around 2700 meters the cultivated foot slopes give ways to lush mountain forest inhabited by different wildlife species the elephants, antelopes and primates.
Higher still reach moorland zone covered with giant heather studded with other giant lobelias. Above 4,000m a surreal alpine desert supports little life other than a few hardy mosses and lichen.
Finally the last vestigial vegetation gives way to a winter wonderland of ice & snow and magnificent beauty of the roof of Africa a Kilimanjaro. The Kilimanjaro mountain climbing routes includes Machame Route, Rongai Route, Lemosho Route, Umbwe Route, Marangu Route, Shira Route and the Mwika route for descending the mountain.
